Los Altos Real Estate

Most properties in Los Altos date back to the1950s and '60s, a period when Long Beach area families sought larger, more spacious homes than ever before. Development here produced a wide selection of comfortable single family homes which have matured nicely in recent years, as homeowners seek to preserve Los Altos' distinct mid-20th century charm.

Residents of Los Altos real estate enjoy easy access to several shopping centers, including the recently rebuilt Los Altos Center, where destination retailers like Sears, Borders, CompUSA, Circuit City, and Bristol Farms mix with numerous independent shops and restaurants. Just north of the 405 freeway, the former Navy Hospital has also been transformed into a shopping spot, and features Lowe's Home Improvement Center, Big K, and an auto dealership.

When visiting Los Altos, be sure to see the area's premier attraction, an historic church organ housed at Los Altos United Methodist Church. The organ was built in Boston, Massachusetts, and came to California in the 1850s on a clipper ship which sailed around Cape Horn. Exquisitely constructed, and in excellent condition, it's believed to be the oldest “Tracker-type” church instrument in America west of the Mississippi.
